About Turtle Dove Expressions
Turtle Dove Expressions was founded by Kathaleen Hancock Todd. Ms. Todd is an award-winning songwriter and composer specializing in children’s music, youth and child choral vocal ensembles. She finds writing songs for youth performances to be extremely fulfilling and gratifying.
About Kathaleen
Kathaleen is a Colorado Native and grew up camping, Jeeping and enjoying music from a young age. The mountains have served as an inspiration for much of her music. As a Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist at Children’s Hospital Colorado, and a life-long lover of music, she’s seen first-hand how music can soothe and calm a child. Having written several songs for youth and understanding the needs youth today have for more non-digital connection, she’s passionate about composing and song writing for kids of all ages.
Her love of music began with her father’s harmonica playing, while she and her family played guitar and sang music from her grandparents’ era. The guitar became her instrument of choice and with it she began writing songs and performing her original music.
Married with three adult children and an 20 year-old cat, she and her husband reside in their 1890’s built familial home beside the Arkansas river.
Benefits of Choir
Bonding. Choir is shown to be an excellent ice breaker and brings groups together in a special community bond.
Builds Network. Since most of today’s networks are online, it’s nice for kids to have a place where supportive relationships are formed around a common interest.
Balance. Singing has shown emotional benefits, but there are physical ones as well, including supporting better posture and breathing. Singing and music are also linked to lower stress and muscle tension.
Brain Function. Singing helps develop memory and brain function as some studies show it releases dopamine and serotonin – happiness hormones.
Boosts Confidence. When children receive positive feedback, it boosts confidence, and singing is one way for them to enjoy applause and praise. Choir also gives them practice on a stage, in front of a crowd, and in teamwork – all great skills to learn.
